Case Studies - Over-excitement

As a general rule, the more energy a dog has the more excitable they will be, therefore identifying the cause of the excitement is crucial.  First check if your dog is getting enough physical exercise on a daily basis, then look at how much mental exercise you are giving them.  Introducing activities (dog agility, training work, search and find games, kong/maize toy with treats) that make your dog think will help to challenge them reducing the level of energy they have.  Also ignoring/correcting your dog when you come and go will teach them that they do not get rewarded with your attention for jumping up, barking or spinning around but instead when they are calm.
