What is Titre Testing?

Titre testing is a valuable blood test for your dog that measures antibody levels to determine protection against core diseases: Canine Distemper, Canine Hepatitis and Canine Parvovirus, the DHP vaccines. This test helps ensure your pet has adequate immunity and can guide vaccination decisions, avoiding unnecessary boosters and over-immunisation*. It's an important step in maintaining your dog's health and well-being.

What will the results show?

Following your appointment, our vet will analyse the blood sample taken from your pet and notify you of the result. If the test result shows that your dog already has a good level of protection against the tested diseases (usually Distemper, Hepatitis & Parvovirus), you have the choice of avoiding the risks of over-vaccination.

WSAVA Recommended

Titre testing is recommended by the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA). Please note, this test is only suitable for animals that have been vaccinated at some stage in their past. Titre Testing cannot be used to assess levels of protection against Leptospirosis and Kennel Cough.

*Repeated antigenic challenge may cause hypersensitivity reactions which could cause harm. The effect is described as "over immunisation". The importance of vaccines is stressed in papers but "Unnecessary vaccination must be discouraged. Hypersensitivity reactions to vaccine components are real and must be guarded against." Tizard IR, Adverse consequences of vaccination. Vaccines for Veterinarians, 2021; 115-130.
