Welcome

Thanks to the Dogs Trust, Newbury, Dog Trouble have a new Pack member!

‘Freddy’ (previously named ‘Scamp’) can be found sunbathing when the sun is out or following Max around !  He’s starting to get the hang of a Pack Walk but really loves running full speed alongside the bike.  He’s clocked the guinea pigs and can be a bit nippy if challenged.  A bit of assertive leadership and calm corrections seemed to do the trick!  He’ll gradually pick things up from the rest of the pack…We’ll keep you posted on his adventures !

Bella had another productive day…She really loves the water so am going to take her swimming tomorrow if it’s another sunny

day !  She’s got a bit of a limp on her front leg due to being overweight, so the water will be better than cycling until she slims down a bit…

Welcome

What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than a cycle ride with an American Bulldog followed by chillin’ out in front of the TV with the rest of the pack!

Welcome

When working with dogs that show any type of aggressive behaviour you have to stay on your toes! Watch for any warning signs of changes in their body language that will give you the first clue as to how they are about to respond.

Max helped out as always when we took a look at how severe an aggressive case we were working with..

Welcome

Bella was rescued by her owner a couple of months ago after spending 2 years in a Rescue Centre.  Unfortunately she started to show aggressive behaviour towards other dogs whilst out on walks.  It even got so bad that her owner had to resort to walking her at night!  Dog Trouble were called in to help when her owner had tried everything with no success.

You can follow Bella’s progress over the next two weeks to see how she gets on at Boot Camp.

Welcome

Jazz not only walks across the tile and laminate flooring now but she will also stay on it to eat her dinner….Check out the footage !

Her age has brought a whole different calming energy to the pack BUT she has amazed us all with her speedy legs out on walks.  Often Jazz can be found out in front of the pack right next to me, with the younger dogs lagging behind!  She’s also first to jump into the pool afterwards!  Even her Ma ‘n’ Pa don’t believe that she now walks on tiles, plays ball at playtime and goes swimming in the lake… Jazz you can come stay anytime !

Welcome

Dogs live in the moment, they are never too old to learn new behaviour.  So when 16 year old Jazz came to board for a week we took the opportunity to work on some of her anxieties….walking on tile/laminated flooring, fire crackles….

When working with older dogs you just have to remember that their response time will be slower and their eyes and ears may not work like they used too!  So we used Jazz’s sense of smell with a treat in front of her nose to motivate her to move forwards across the floor….oh and some help from Ellie who kept nudging her on !!

Stage 1- Carpet or Tiles..."Carpet for me thanks !"

Stage 2 - "How long did you say I have to stay on here for?"

Stage 3-Ellie to the Rescue !

Welcome

“Jo was an excellent communicator and made the session both interesting and understandable so that I could relate it to my grooming environment.”

Welcome

Anne Wilson Nail Clipping Ellie

Thanks to Dog Groomers-Anne Wilson, Wagtails UK; Ruth Fuller, Muckypups;  Helen Hanly, The Dog Grooming Studio; And Jessie Williams, Jessies Grooming for being such a nice bunch of people to teach !

The session showed the group how to work with fearful and aggressive dogs whilst carrying out various grooming tasks.  The main focus of the session was to show dog groomers how to create a relaxed and positive experience for dogs that are either anxious about visiting the Dog Groomers or who display mild aggression.

So many dogs become anxious about new experiences, particularly going to the dog groomers or vets.  So it is really important that we make it fun and positive for them when they are being bathed, clipped, blow dryed or even brushed!  Any experience where a dog enjoys themselves and receives a positive reward will encourage them to want to repeat the experience.   But make sure you only reward them when they are relaxed NOT when they are still shaking or growling!!

It’s a great feeling to know that 4 dog groomers will now be back out there with the skills and knowledge to work with fearful or aggressive dogs.  Hopefully now both dog and groomer will have a positive grooming experience !  I can’t wait to visit you all in action in the next couple of weeks !

Welcome
